Andreas Altmann gilt als einer der bekanntesten deutschen Reporter und wurde für seine Bücher und Reportagen mehrfach ausgezeichnet, u. a. mit dem Egon-Erwin-Kisch-Preis und dem Johann-Gottfried-Seume-Preis. Ausgedehnte Reisen führten ihn auf alle Kontinente, wo er die Inspirationen für seine preisgekrönten Reportagen fand. Andreas Altmann lebte in einem indischen Ashram und in einem Zen-Kloster in Kyoto – seit mehreren Jahren liegt sein Wohnsitz in Paris.
